JOBSITE JOURNAL CUSTOMER CONVERSATION STARTERS INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH 'Y' n EDMONTON, ALBERTA – Thanks to the work of painting contractor Applied Colour, the Edmonton YMCA has made the switch from oil-based to water-based products with no sacrifice in performance for even its most de- manding coatings needs. "They cater to a large membership base, so their facilities see a lot of traffic," says Andy Lucardie, president of the Applied Group of Companies. "We felt the technology and extensive research behind Sherwin-Williams Pro Industrial Pre- Catalyzed Waterbased Epoxy would deliver the longevity, durability and impact resistance they needed. Our crews did multiple tests in high-traffic areas, and the Y was impressed with the durability and final finish the product offered." Applied used the Pro Industrial product on all common areas, including drywall and cinder block walls, wood and metal doors, metal railings and wood shelving. "Pre-Cat has exceptional durability and washability," says Applied Colour project manager Lee Williams. "Our crew commented on the good coverage and the fact that it dries and cures very quickly. And since Pre-Cat is water-based, it removes the need for solvents during cleanup. This creates a healthier work environment." Applied Colour also incorporated the Harmony line for the YMCA's daycare facilities. Lucardie will be encouraging other YMCAs across Canada to embrace this environmental approach, and promote the use of Harmony and Pro Indus- trial Pre-Catalyzed Water Based Epoxy products in their own painting programs. "The YMCA promotes healthy living, so making the move to these product lines fell perfectly in line with their philosophy," he says.
