They've also won a number of recog- nitions, including being named No. 292 on Inc. magazine's 500 Fastest Growing Companies list in 2010 – the first residential painting compa- ny to make the list. Owner Jeremiah Owen, a native of Grand Junction, Colo., sat down with Professional Painting Contractor magazine to share the Vivax team's story. How did you end up settling in Denver and working in the painting industry? In 1998, I went to Boulder to get a business degree at the Univer- sity of Colorado. To pay the bills, I started working with the National Services Group. They offered me an opportunity to start a painting division of their company in North Carolina. I did that for three years, but I really wanted to come back to Colorado, and moved to Denver to start a carpet-cleaning company with a buddy. How did that go? We acquired a lot of debt, so I started painting houses in March 2004. That May, I hired Logan Hall (current vice president of production) as a painter. We took on a couple more guys and did whatever we could to get the word out – knocked on doors, pounded the pavement handing out flyers, etc. CONTRACTOR PROFILE Q&A: The Rocky Mountain Paint Team With the use of finely-tuned business systems, Vivax Pro Painting is able to paint up to 120 homes a week in peak summer season, while still focusing on its original "one house at a time" philosophy.
